What is Glazing
Glazing is a technique most often associated with
oil painting and was used by the old masters. A glaze is a transparent
application of washes, which are laid on in successive layers over dry paint. It
is much like laying layers of colored tissue paper on top of one another. Each
glaze changes the earlier ones, and the result is a rich, transparent glowing
look. The reason for this is that a glaze, being transparent allows light to
pass through it and be reflected back off the underlying color. The colors
combine optically in the viewer’s eye improving the painting with a rich glow
that is impossible to achieve by mixing them physically on the palette.
Shining
Feather Soft Glo Acrylic Glazes are made from pure pigments in a binder that
increases transparency, and enhances the depth of color. There is no need to add
a medium to these, as they are ready to use. Using a Pure, vibrant pigment
instead of a pre-mixed paint that is already diluted, gives a more intense
application therefore creates a richer, deeper glaze. This cannot be
accomplished by just adding a glaze medium to the paint as most acrylic paints
are not completely transparent and as a result they cover the under color and
make them look milky.
Each set includes 8 of the basic
colors you need and a set of instructions telling you what each color of glaze
will do when applied over another color. No more guessing! Because they are so
strongly pigmented, you only use a tiny amount therefore they will last a long
time!
Being an oil painter
for over 30 years and using glazing on all of her paintings, Sharon really
missed this aspect of her art when she started using acrylics.
She tried everything on the market to make a glaze that would intensify
her paintings the way oils did, but she never could get that great
vibrancy of oils. So as in the past, if she couldn't find it she invented
it.
The glazes
have the new AP (Approved Product) seal
which
means they are non toxic to humans
