 to Paint Seascapes &  Clouds

Acrylics

Learn all about the ocean!

The sea can be soothing with soft swirls of foam and quiet lapping on wet sand, or it can be energizing with waves rolling, crashing, and spewing foam high into the air. Because the ocean is constantly moving, it can be one of the most challenging subjects an artist can paint. In this book, Sharon Teal-Coray shares the easy methods she has developed to paint the various elements of the ocean, plus the sky and clouds.
Included are 5 designs for advanced beginners to intermediate painters, each with complete instructions, full-size patterns, and beautifully illustrated paint worksheets: Caribbean Colors, Labadee, Maui Morning, Paradise Cove, and Under the Full Moon.

By following her easy step-by-step instructions, you will soon be painting the beautiful sea by yourself.

Under the Full Moon

“Gomma It’s A Full Moon.”

When my granddaughter Amanda was 3 years old, she was fascinated with the moon. One night I pointed it out to her and then soon after that we were walking to her Mommies car when she looked up in the sky and pointing exclaimed “Gomma it’s a full moon”, she had a hard time saying Grandma! She was so excited to see a full moon!

A few years later we took a family vacation to southern California. We stayed in a condo on the beach and I took Amanda and her sister Savannah down to the water at night to see how beautiful the sea looked. It was just so gorgeous, I wanted them to see how the foam actually looks fluorescent when there is a full moon. We played in the surf and seeing the moon Amanda remembered what she had said to me and told Savannah who was the same age that Amanda was when she had said it. The girls and I started to laugh and Savannah started to chant it as she ran around in the water. I can still see us frolicking in the moonlight on the beach it was a night to remember. It inspired me to paint this painting.

  Labadee

A few years ago my husband and I went on a cruise and Labadee was one of the places we stopped. It is on a peninsula on the north coast of Hispaniola, otherwise known as Haiti. Hispaniola was the name Christopher Columbus gave to the whole island shared by the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Beautiful mountain slopes surround it and exotic foliage is seen everywhere. The bougainvillea and the hibiscus were all out in bloom. I loved this place so much I was inspired to paint it!

Maui Morning

I love Maui, the spectacular colors of the water and greenery is so deep and rich, I just had to paint it!

Paradise Cove

I was inspired to paint this from a  Cruise we took with my son John and his wife Suzy to Roatan Island in Honduras  a few years ago, the sunsets were unbelievable! One of my favorite things is sitting watching a sunset on the beach or while at sea.

Caribbean Colors

I love the Caribbean, the beaches and water are an artists dream!  One of my favorite is a wonderful beach  in St Martin, I could not believe the beauty of this island!
